Gas, Electricity, Internet, Telephone and Radio/TV Licence Fees

Additional charges

Residential rent is made up of several components. The basic rent is a fixed amount for the use of the space. Additional charges are incurred, for example, for water, heating or administrative costs. These are generally charged annually based on consumption.

You need to register with one of the many electric utility companies for the supply of energy. These utility companies have very different prices. Comparison sites on the Internet will help you to find a cheap deal.

Radio and internet fees

You will have to pay a fee if you want to receive public service radio or television. Please register with the German Licence Fee Centre. Forms are available in the Citizens' Service Centres [EN-Welcome Center]   or at www.rundfunkbeitrag.de . However, only one person per apartment must be registered and pay the radio/TV licence fee.

You are also free to choose the supplier for landline telephones and Internet connections.
